So... there's been a change of plan!!
When thinkning about who to pitch The Price of Plastic in the developmental stages, I'd had conversations with my supervisor about which platform would be the best fit.
There was a lot of to and fro-ing, arguing why multiple outlets would be suitable, and we whittled it down to two: BBC Newsbeat and Radio 4.
Two contrasting outlets, right? To be honest, they couldn't be more different. But there's a reason why we were so torn.
Newsbeat, who's home is on Radio 1 and 1Xtra as well as online, felt like the best fit as it catered to the generation that was more likely to care about climate change and the current climate crisis we find ourselves in.
However, as I made it my mission to explore the financial side of being eco-friendly, and how being responsible in this way was elitist, persuing a Radio 4 angle also seemed tangible.
To cut a long story short, when pitch week came about at the start of October, I'd made up my mind - Newsbeat was where I wanted my doc to go.
HOWEVER, I changed my mind. As my documentary took shape, it transpired that it may be more fitting for Radio 1 and 1Xtra Stories; a platform for arts and current issues in a factual, documentary format – a change to which my supervisor approved.
As platform that is accessible through BBC Sounds, it also felt fitting that the documentary should be available through this medium.
Here we have it! With it now not being long until the documentary is released - what are you looking forward to hearing? Leave us a comment below or Tweet us @priceofplastic.
